Because playing video games relaxed Rhodes so much last time.
edit: I just realized that the rug, coffee table, and some of the shelves weren't present in chapter 1. Oh well, people buy new furniture all the time. 👁️👁️
The break was a bit longer than I wanted, my apologies. This is a background-heavy page, and it took forever. However, I have more pages coming down the pipe and you won't have to wait long for the next one.
Reminder that I do have a Ko-Fi page in case you'd like to support the comic monetarily. My job has been more demanding of my energy than usual lately, and eventually I'd like to be able to reduce my work hours so I can spend more time bringing you this comic. Thank you.
Here's to hoping that you can reduce your work hours! Even if not to work on the comic, it's probably just better for your mental health to not be working constantly, you know?
Anyway, the time spent on your backgrounds really paid off! The first and second panels really have nice backgrounds. Like the perspective on the first one and the second just has a nice view of the living room.
You're probably aware of this and been told this, but I like how much you use purple for everything. There's lots of purple things in your comic, purple lighting is used, and even your navigation on your website and the website background is purple. It's really nice, and purple is a great way to make things appear dark while still having color to it (if that makes sense).
Oh definitely, I think we all need to have our work hours reduced. We have lives to live, y'know?
And thank you for your kind words! I'm sure you've guessed, but purple is my favorite color and I can't help but slather it all over everything. I didn't notice this detail at first, but my spouse pointed out that we spray-painted a lot of our shelves the exact color of the shelves in Rhodes and Dempsey's house. I just used the color to make their house not look so brown, but art imitates life, as they say!
Get stressed, play video games. That's my go to as well. XD (Though in Rhode's case, that may stress him out more. lol)
Love the wood paneling btw! Lol. You even got that wood texture that they used to put on everything with the tv as well. XD Loving all of the small details you put in your backgrounds. ^^
I was just noticing the wood paneling! And decided to scroll through the comments first to see if anyone else had commented on it, lol
It's weirdly nostalgic, not in a "gee, all that cheap wood paneling was sure was nice" sort of way but in that you really did see it everywhere back in the day, it was the standard for houses of a certain income level and era. From the same era that brought us wood-paneled cars. I defo associate the memory with being a 90's kid
Lol! Yeah, I definitely I feel the same! XD It brings up like a very strange sense of nostalgia. Wood paneling/wood texture was everywhere and on everything! XD
@Rocket @Casscade
I’m glad that everyone is enjoying the old-school wood paneling!! I wanted to tap into that feeling of nostalgia, because wood paneling really was everywhere, whether you liked it or not. It was on every single appliance imaginable, from TVs to toasters to fridge handles to cars. The wood paneling is present in chapter 1, although it’s not as obvious because my rendering skills weren’t quite there yet.
Forget comics, you should be an interior designer! Fantastic choices of furniture and colors!
...in 1979
but seriously, great work on that room, for those of us who can remember rooms like that it's (garishly) beautiful
Thanks! Comics are where I exercise my passion for retro interior design. My tastes don’t align with the current trend to use either blinding white, beige, or dungeon gray for everything, so in comics I stay.
These backgrounds are beautiful, I really love the spread of panel 2! Heck I even stared jealously at your anatomy of Rhodes taking his shoes off. What an awkward pose but you nailed it.
Oh no, he's back to his video game x) I ship your game dog character with Coyotegirl BTW. I know everyone's all about the sock puppet but I see 2 canines with lots of potential!
Thanks!! That pose was so dang awkward but the effort was worth it.
HAHA I love that people have been shipping some of my canine characters with Coyotegirl. First it was Count Draculycan and now Hopper! Lots of potential to go around lol
Coyotegirl is going to unearth an old game system and figure out how to power it up and it's going to be Hopper and she's gonna get a video game crush and write her own self-insert spicy fanfiction that NO ONE is allowed to see but somebody totally will
HAHAHAAH OMG this needs to happen lol
people are making are so many headcanons between my dog characters and Coyotegirl. I wasn't expecting this but I welcome it!
I really need to learn how to furnish my areas more like you have. Roomstyler is a godsend.
Thank you! Roomstyler really is a godsend, isn’t it? It’s made life a lot easier for me, that’s for sure
I want their house to be MY house XD except orange is the color I slather over all of my accent pieces
Legit tho' I would buy that rug on Ruggable, you just sold me a rug
SLATHER THAT ORANGE, BAYBAYYY
I honestly want that rug, too. It’s a premade asset in Roomstyler that I liked so much that I took a screenshot of a top-down view and traced it.
The Venn diagram of things that relax Rhodes and the things that bother him is a circle
Hey, don't worry about the break we all need some time to ourselves! I'm really loving the backgrounds in all of your pages, an inspiration for us all (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
